Bio

David Majzlin is an Emmy®-nominated, two-time Telly Award-winning composer and music producer with more than 25 years of experience scoring acclaimed films.

His documentary work includes HBO's The Loving Story, directed by Nancy Buirski and selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry; HBO's Sins of My Father; Breaking the Silence; Epic Yellowstone; Wired for Chaos; Deej; Las Marthas; Shenandoah; Jack and Sam; and Angel of Nanjing. His work has taken him across an unusually broad range of documentary subjects and musical approaches, from intimate character-driven stories and social-issue films to nature, history and music documentaries.

Majzlin has collaborated with filmmakers including Academy Award-nominated director Lorena Muñoz, MacArthur Fellow Cristina Ibarra, Peabody Award-winner Robert Rooy, Pulitzer Prize-winner David Turnley, and the late Nancy Buirski. His score for the narrative feature Bel Canto, directed by Oscar nominee Paul Weitz and starring Oscar winner Julianne Moore and Ken Watanabe, featured five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning soprano Renée Fleming.

In addition to scoring, Majzlin is an accomplished songwriter and music producer. His work has received the Grand Prize and Lennon Award in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, a Hollywood Music in Media Awards nomination, five Hollywood Independent Music Awards nominations, and recognition from the Global Music Awards, International Songwriting Competition, Great American Song Contest and Unsigned Only Music Competition.

His experience extends beyond composition to the broader relationship between music and picture. He has coached actors portraying musicians on the sets of The Music Never Stopped and Greetings from Tim Buckley and has designed and taught cross-disciplinary courses for composers, music producers and filmmakers at UCLA Extension, New York Film Academy and Brooklyn College.

David is also the creator of the Music For Filmmakers Boot Camp - a 4-hour workshop for filmmakers who want to learn about how to tackle all aspects of music before starting the music leg of their projects - from licensing and supervision to budgets and contracts.
